Mikrotec Corporate History
Mikrotec Internet Service began in 1994 as a Lexington - based Internet Service Provider (ISP). Mikrotec adopted a core business focus of providing high quality Internet access to central Kentucky and surrounding areas.
East Kentucky Internet began in the summer of 1995, to fulfill the need for dependable Internet service in the Floyd and Pike County areas of Eastern Ky.
In January of 1999 the two companies merged to become the new Mikrotec Internet Service, an affiliate of Gearheart Communications Inc., which now has local service to 57 counties in Kentucky and parts of three states. Mikrotec offers connections to the World Wide Web, email, newsgroups, web-development, unrivaled toll-free tech support, 56k digital modems, and secure site design for safe, reliable online commerce.
Mikrotec has an extensive multi-state network and is multi-homed in three locations in two states. We maintain four separate connections to NAP's (National Access Points) in the South and Midwest. Mikrotec is connected to the telephone network via OC12 fiber optics using Verizon's DUAL Sonet Ring. We use state of the art servers and routers from Sun, DEC, and Cisco. Mikrotec is a full service network offering high speed connectivity through dedicated lines, frame relay, ADSL & ISDN, in addition to our dial up 56k service.
At Mikrotec, we are dedicated to providing our clients with unprecedented customer service and support. We use and recommend the highest quality equipment and software available, and our network topology is engineered to provide maximum performance reliability.
